Stop just reading about God. Start talking with Him.
Why I Built Closet
A Letter from the Founder
Hi, I'm Jonathan.
I built Closet because I realized something that scared me: I was losing the most important relationship in my life.
The Problem I Saw
I pray regularly. I read my Bible. I'm involved in church. By most standards, I'm doing "all the right things."
But if I'm honest, I was doing more talking and thinking than actually conversing with God. More analyzing Scripture than listening to its Author. More religious routine than real relationship.
And I wasn't alone.
Almost everyone I know struggles with the same thing. We pray every day, but we rarely have completely devoted time with God where we're not distracted. We read our Bibles, but we're not really in conversation with Him about what we're reading. We're just thinking and learning—like we would from any other good book.
And that has no power.
The Memory That Changed Everything
Several years ago, I took Jesus literally when He said, "Go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father who is unseen."
I would set aside time every day to literally go into my room, shut the door, and meet with God.
And something incredible happened.
I would finish my last couple hours of work just exploding with anticipation. I'd drive home talking to God the whole way—things like, "I'm almost there!!" with absolute certainty that He was waiting for me in the secret place.
He was.
The moment I'd shut the door, it was like the glory of God would fill the room.
Prayer wasn't a duty. It was a meeting. It wasn't a monologue. It was a conversation. It wasn't information. It was encounter.
That's what I had lost. And I wanted it back.
The Hesitation We All Feel
Here's what I've noticed in church circles: many of us are hesitant to ask God questions because we're afraid we'll mistake our imagination for His voice.
So we stopped asking altogether. We stopped listening.
But the reality is that God really does speak to us and lead us.
Yes, through Scripture—maybe mostly through Scripture. But even when we're reading the Bible, if we're not in conversation with God about it, we're often not hearing from Him. We're just thinking. Learning. Analyzing.
We've turned the living Word into a textbook.
The Irony That Broke Me
When we have questions now, where do we turn?
Google. ChatGPT. Podcasts. Books. Influencers.
We'll ask an AI model for advice, but we won't ask the God who created us.
Why?
We have access to the One who knows and understands us with perfect knowledge. Who is never wrong. Who knows all things—past, present, and future. Who is ready to be deeply involved in each of our lives if we'll just give Him the time of day.
There is NOTHING more important or valuable than time with Him.
And yet we treat it like an afterthought.
The Inspiration
I've watched people maintain thousand-day streaks on Duolingo. They don't want to break the chain. They're motivated by consistency and progress.
What if we could harness that for the most valuable thing we can do in life?
What if instead of just asking ourselves what we think about a Bible verse, we asked God what He thinks?
What if we had prompts and questions that directed us not to our own understanding, but to His?
Even if we're not always sure we're hearing His voice clearly, posing the questions to Him and listening is infinitely more valuable than just thinking our own thoughts.
What I Built
Closet isn't another Bible app. It's not a devotional plan. It's not a prayer list manager.
It's a tool to help you meet with God.
Every day, you get:
- A Scripture passage to ground you in His Word
- Questions that direct you to ask Him, not yourself
- A distraction-free space to actually listen
- A way to capture what He's speaking to your heart
- Accountability to keep showing up
Because I believe the secret place is where transformation happens.
Not in the noise. Not in the busyness. Not in the information overload.
In the room. With the door shut. With your Father who sees in secret.
My Hope for You
If you've lost that anticipation—that excitement to meet with God—I want to help you find it again.
If you've never experienced it, I want to introduce you to it.
I want you to finish your workday exploding with anticipation for your time with God.
I want you to drive home talking to Him: "I'm almost there!"
I want you to shut the door and feel His presence fill the room.
Because He's waiting for you in the secret place.
He always has been.
An Invitation
This app exists because I believe the most important thing any of us can do is spend time in conversation with the living God.
Not just reading about Him.
Not just talking at Him.
But actually being with Him.
If that resonates with you, I'd love for you to join me.
Let's rediscover the secret place together.
"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
— Matthew 6:6

See It In Action
A beautiful, distraction-free space to meet with God

How It Works
Simple, intentional, designed to help you meet with God daily
Get your daily Scripture prompt
Every day, receive a passage with questions that turn reading into praying—bringing it to God instead of only thinking it over.
Bring the questions to God
Read the passage and let God speak to you through it, then pray the questions back to Him. It isn't only Bible reading—it's time spent with God.
Write down what God showed you
Capture what He said and what you want to remember, by voice or text. Look back later and see how far He has brought you.
Grow—together
Show up daily and watch your streak grow. Take on challenges, earn milestones, and pray alongside friends who keep you going.
Your Prayers Stay Yours
The secret place is sacred. Closet is built so your prayer life stays private—and stays yours.
Voice notes never leave your phone
Recordings of your prayers are saved in local storage on your device. They are never uploaded to our servers.
Your written journal is yours alone
Written entries are backed up to your own private account, so changing phones never costs you years of reflection. Database-level security means no other user can reach them. We don't read them, share them, or sell them.
Friends see your streak, never your prayers
Pray alongside people who keep you going. They can see that you showed up—never a word of what you said.
Works offline, no account needed to begin
No signal, no problem. Closet opens instantly and works fully without internet. Create an account only when you want your journal backed up or to connect with friends.

Behind the scenes
Closet is built and maintained by one person. Keeping it running well — servers, fixing bugs, and building what's next — takes a lot of ongoing time and cost.
It will always stay free. If it's been a blessing to you and you're able, a tip helps keep it going.
Leave a Tip
If Closet has helped you draw near to God, you can leave a tip to support ongoing work. There's no pressure at all — even a small one means more than you know. 🙏

Closet is live on iPhone. To reach the Google Play store, we need a group of Android users to install it and keep using it for two weeks. If you have an Android phone, you can help—and get the app early.
